“I’m looking forward to talking about my experiences in California politics with the students and faculty of USC. What we do here in California influences our nation and the world. When I was a student at MIT, I took advantage of these types of speaker programs because they added a real world perspective to what I was learning in the classroom,” said Senator Alex Padilla.
Alex Padilla, a graduate of MIT with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, was elected to the Los Angeles City Council in 1999 at the age of 26. Two years later his colleagues elected him council president. Padilla was not only the first Latino, but the youngest person ever elected city council president in Los Angeles. In the Senate he has won legislative approval for 69 bills, 54 of which have been signed into law.
