Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments: First, Aaron Robertson, 44, of Roseville, has been appointed chief deputy director at the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Robertson has been deputy director of administration at the California Department of Parks and Recreation since 2012.
He was deputy director of administration at the California Department of Toxic Substances Control from 2010 to 2012, administrative analyst for the City of Rocklin from 2005 to 2010 and manager of strategic planning, corporate development and eBusiness at Vision Service Plan from 2002 to 2005. Robertson was senior associate at Claggett Wolfe Associates in 2001, program manager at Science Applications International Corporation from 1998 to 2000 and strategic programs officer for the Central Intelligence Agency and National Imagery and Mapping Agency from 1992 to 1998. Robertson served in the United States Marine Corps since 1986. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $125,076. Robertson is a Republican.
Lieutenant Colonel David Kauffman, 41, of Placerville, has been appointed inspector general at the California Military Department. Kauffman has served with the California Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve for nearly twenty years, including tours of duty in Guantanamo Bay Cuba, Kosovo, and Afghanistan. He has held multiple positions in the California Military Department from 2005 to 2012, including inspector general and judge advocate. Kauffman was deputy district attorney at the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office from 2000 to 2005 and staff counsel at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company from 1997 to 2000. Andreas Mueller, 30, of Washington D.C., has been appointed chief of federal policy and liaison at the California Military Department. Mueller served as legislative director to Congressman Glenn Nye from 2009 to 2011. He was senior legislative assistant and military legislative assistant to Congressmen Jerry McNerney from 2007 to 2009. Mueller was deputy finance director at Jerry McNerney for Congress in 2006 as well as assistant campaign coordinator at Lynn Woolsey for Congress. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $93,780. Mueller is a Democrat.
Robert Doyle, 65, of Novato, has been appointed to the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Doyle has been the sheriff of Marin County since 1996, and has served in multiple positions at the Marin County Sheriff’s Office since 1969. He is a member of the California State Sheriff’s Association, where he served as president from 2004 to 2005. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Doyle is a Democrat.
Ronald Lowenberg, 66, of Huntington Beach, has been appointed to the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, where he has served since 2005 and previously from 1989 to 1998. Lowenberg has been dean at the Golden West Community College Criminal Justice Training Center since 2003. He served as police chief for the City of Huntington Beach from 1989 to 2002 and was police chief for the City of Cypress from 1981 to 1989. Lowenberg is a past president of the California Police Chiefs Association and former board member of the California Peace Officers Association. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Lowenberg is a Republican.
Laurie Smith, 61, of San Jose, has been appointed to the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Smith has been the sheriff of Santa Clara County since 1998 and has served in multiple positions at the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office since 1973. She is a member of the California State Sheriff’s Association, where she served as president from 2007 to 2008. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Smith is a Republican.
Janice Lauppe, 60, of Alturas, has been appointed to the 34th District Agricultural Association, Modoc District Fair. Lauppe was a teacher at the Modoc Joint Unified School District from 1989 to 2012. She is a lifetime member of the California Teachers Association. Terry Bressler, 58, of Colusa, has been appointed to the 44th District Agricultural Association, Colusa County Fair, where he has been a member since 1999.
