SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments: First, Hal Geiogue, 71, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the California Student Aid Commission. Geiogue was the chief consultant to the California Assembly Education Committee from 1995 to 2002, and was assistant state treasurer to the California State Treasurer from 1991 to 1995.
Geiogue served in the California Legislative Analyst’s Office as principal program analyst from 1975 to 1990 and as higher education consultant from 1967 to 1975. Geiogue was a budget analyst for the California Department of Finance from 1965 to 1967. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree from California State University, Sacramento. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Geiogue is a Democrat.
Harry Le Grande, 59, of Fairfield, has been appointed to the California Student Aid Commission. Le Grande has been vice chancellor of student affairs at the University of California, Berkeley since 2008 and was interim vice chancellor from 2007 to 2008. Le Grande has served in various positions with the University of California, Berkeley since 1981, including associate vice chancellor of student affairs for residential and student services programs, assistant vice chancellor, executive director of housing and dining services, director of housing and dining services and associate director of housing and dining operations. Le Grande has been a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators since 2008, American College of Personnel Administration since 1981 and the National Forum for Black Public Administrators since 1985. He earned a Master of Education degree from Oregon State University. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is a $100 per diem. Le Grande is a Democrat.
Mark Nelson, 67, of Wilton, has been appointed to the California Exposition and State Fair Board of Directors. Nelson has been a broker at Hesseltine Realty since 2011. He was owner of Sacramento Land and Farming from 1971 to 2011. Nelson is a member of the California Rangeland Trust, California Cattlemen’s Association, California Farm Bureau and the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Nelson is a Republican.
Timothy Sands, 54, of Auburn, has been appointed to the 20th District Agricultural Association, Gold Country Fair Board. Sands has been a deputy district attorney at the Placer County District Attorney’s Office since 1985. He is a member of the Placer Community Foundation Board of Directors and the Placer County Law Library Board of Trustees. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Sands is a Republican.
Lynda Appling, 63, of Mariposa, has been appointed to the 35a District Agricultural Association, Mariposa County Fair and Homecoming Board. Appling has been a hearing officer at the Tort Claims Appeals Board of the Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians since 2005. She was a private practice home health aide from 1992 to 2005. Appling was secretary and interim business manager of the Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians from 1990 to 1992 and secretary at the All Tribes Counseling Center of Mariposa from 1989 to 1990. She held multiple positions at the National Park Service from 1978 to 1989, including secretary, personnel clerk and park technician. Appling is a board member of the Mariposa Girls Youth Softball League. She also served on the California Indian Manpower Consortium from 2003 to 2005 and the Mariposa County Grand Jury from 1999 to 2000. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Appling is a Republican.
Carol Johnson, 70, of Mariposa, has been appointed to the 35a District Agricultural Association, Mariposa County Fair and Homecoming Board. Johnson was a senior engineer at IBM Corporation from 1962 to 2002. She is a board member of the Mariposa County Arts Council, Mariposa County Economic Development Corporation and Mother Lode Workforce Investment Board. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Johnson is a Democrat.
Pelk Richards, 64, of Mariposa, has been appointed to the 35a District Agricultural Association, Mariposa County Fair and Homecoming Board, where he has served since 1992. Richards held multiple positions at the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office from 1972 to 2003, including sheriff from 1999 to 2003. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Richards is a Republican.
John Stewart, 56, of Mariposa, has been appointed to the 35a District Agricultural Association, Mariposa County Fair and Homecoming Board. Stewart has held multiple positions with the Mariposa County Unified School District since 1991, including purchasing director, warehouse worker and custodian. He was manager at Pioneer Market from 1987 to 1991 and bindery department director at Carpenter Printing from 1986 to 1987. Stewart held multiple positions at 49er Market from 1981 to 1986, including manager and assistant manager. He is a member of the California School Employees Association Board of Directors and Mariposa County Economic Development Corporation.
