Calif. Governor BrownSACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments: First, Kent Sasaki, 48, of Walnut Creek, has been appointed to the California Building Standards Commission. He has served in multiple positions at Wiss Janney Elstner Associates Inc. since 1989, including principal, board member and engineer.

Sasaki is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Structural Engineers Association of California. Sasaki earned a Master of Engineering degree in structural engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Sasaki is a Democrat.

Steve Winkel, 64, of Berkeley, has been appointed to the California Building Standards Commission, where he served as a commissioner from 1999 to 2011. Winkel has been partner at The Preview Group Inc. since 2005. He was a project manager at Field Paoli Architects from 1998 to 2004 and from 1986 to 1991. Winkel was a project manager at Seaton Wilson Architects from 1997 to 1998 and at Michael Willis and Associates from 1991 to 1996. He was a consulting architect at BAR Architects from 1984 to 1986, landscape architect at ELS Design Group from 1982 to 1984 and civil engineer in training at Bissell and Karn Inc. from 1977 to 1981. Winkel was an architect and landscape architect at Osborne and Stewart from 1971 to 1977. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Winkel is a Democrat.

Sharon Kalemkiarian, 56, of San Diego, has been appointed to the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board. Kalemkiarian is a partner at the law firm of Ashworth Blanchet Christenson and Kalemkiarian LLP, where she has worked since 2000. She was director of Project Heartbeat at the San Diego County Bar Association from 1996 until 2000 and supervising attorney of the child advocacy clinic at the University of San Diego School of Law from 1993 until 1996. Kalemkiarian was a Skadden Fellow at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego from 1991 until 1993 and a clerk for the Honorable Gordon Thompson, Chief Judge of the Southern District of California, from 1989 until 1991. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. Kalemkiarian is a member of the Armenian Bar Association, the Lawyers Club of San Diego and the Environmental Health Coalition Board of Directors. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Kalemkiarian is a Democrat.

Susan Lien Longville, 61, of San Bernardino, has been appointed to the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board. Longville has served in multiple positions for the Water Resources Institute at California State University, San Bernardino since 1999, including executive director and associate director. She served as Inland Empire regional manager at Cadiz Inc. from 1990 to 1999. Longville was a member of the San Bernardino City Council from 1998 until 2006, and was elected to the governing boards of the Southern California Association of Governments and the Local Government Commission. She earned a Master of Arts degree in management from the Claremont Graduate University. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Longville is a Democrat.
