SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — On Monday, Calif. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments: First, Andrew Campbell, 23, of Oakdale, has been appointed to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors. Campbell has been a student services representative in the Office of Congressman Jeff Denham since 2015.

Campbell was an event sales cashier at Modesto Junior College from 2014 to 2015 and an apprentice at Norquist Heating, Air Conditioning and Sheet Metal Company in 2012. Campbell is pursuing an Associate of Arts degree in business administration at Modesto Junior College. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Campbell is registered without party preference.

Hasun Khan, 21, of Bakersfield, has been appointed to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors. Khan was a judicial operations intern at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in 2015 and an animator and graphic designer at HitRecord in 2014. He is pursuing an Associate of Arts degree in computer science at Berkeley City College. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Khan is a Democrat.

Talibah Al-Rafiq, 64, of Mokelumne Hill, has been appointed to the 39th District Agricultural Association, Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee Board of Directors, where she has served since 2004. Al-Rafiq has been chief executive officer and owner at the California Cashmere Company since 1990. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Al-Rafiq is a Republican.

Katherine Campbell, 54, of San Andreas, has been reappointed to the 39th District Agricultural Association, Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee Board of Directors, where she has served since 2003. Campbell has served as a teacher for the Calaveras Unified School District since 1996. She was a realtor at Howard Little Real Estate from 1989 to 1995 and chief of the Stockton Record’s Mother Lode Bureau from 1983 to 1989. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Campbell is a Democrat.

Evan Garamendi, 70, of Mokelumne Hill, has been reappointed to the 39th District Agricultural Association, Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee Board of Directors, where she has served since 2012. Garamendi served as a teacher for the Calaveras Unified School District from 1969 to 2003. She is a member of the Calaveras County Arts Council and the Mokelumne Hill Lions Club. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Garamendi is a Republican.

Darrin Mills, 41, of Murphys, has been appointed to the 39th District Agricultural Association, Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee Board of Directors, where he has served since 2009. Mills has been owner and manager at Distinctive Metals since 2001. He was a secretary at Angels Sheet Metal from 1995 to 2001. Mills is a member of the Bret Harte Union High School Future Farmers of America Booster Club. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Mills is a Republican.

Bob Trinchero, 74, of Angels Camp, has been appointed to the 39th District Agricultural Association, Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee Board of Directors, where he has served since 1999. Trinchero was a partner and owner at Priority Realtors from 2007 to 2014, a developer and golf course manager at Greenhorn Creek Resort from 1999 to 2002 and a marketing manager and limited partner at Greenhorn Creek Development Corporation from 1994 to 1999. He was a professor and university administrator at California State University, East Bay from 1968 to 1993. Trinchero earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in psychological measurement from Stanford University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Trinchero is a Democrat.

Steven Wooster, 66, of Copperopolis, has been appointed to the 39th District Agricultural Association, Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee Board of Directors, where he has served since 2010. Wooster has been owner and operator at Wooster Ranch since 1988. He is a member of the California Cattlemen’s Association and the Calaveras County Junior Livestock Boosters. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Wooster is a Republican.

Panorea Avdis, 37, of Sacramento, has been appointed director of the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz), where she has served as chief deputy director since 2012. Avdis was chief of staff in the Office of Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna from 2010 to 2012, director of external affairs at the California Department of Housing and Community Development from 2007 to 2010 and a project manager at AKT Development Corporation from 2004 to 2007. She served in several positions in the Office of Governor Gray Davis from 1998 to 2003, including advance staff and special assistant to the Governor. Avdis is a custodian of archives for Governor Gray Davis and a member of the California State University, Sacramento Hellenic Outreach Program Board of Directors, Angelic Board of Directors and the Tsakopoulos Hellenic Foundation. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $143,040. Avdis is a Democrat.

Will Koch, 39, of Mather, has been appointed chief deputy director at the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz), where he has served as deputy director of the California Competes Tax Credit Program since 2014 and was deputy director of legislative and inter-governmental affairs from 2012 to 2014. Koch served in several positions at the California Franchise Tax Board from 1998 to 2012, including legislative analyst, personal income tax technical advisor, tax collection specialist and tax collector. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $127,788. Koch is a Democrat.

Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments on Oct. 30:

Mike Vizzier, 65, of Coronado, has been appointed to the California Department of Toxic Substances Control Independent Review Panel. Vizzier was chief of the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health’s Hazardous Materials Division from 2007 to 2015, where he was a hazardous materials inspector from 1995 to 2007. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1972 to 1992. Vizzier earned a Master of Science degree in systems management from the University of Southern California. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Vizzier is a Democrat.

Fred A. Rowley, Jr., 44, of South Pasadena, has been reappointed to the California Commission on Uniform State Laws, where he has served since 2014. Rowley has been an adjunct professor of law at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law since 2014 and a litigation partner at Munger, Tolles and Olson LLP since 2008. He served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Central District of California Criminal Appeals Section from 2002 to 2006 and was a law clerk for the Honorable David F. Levi at the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California from 1998 to 1999 and for the Honorable James R. Browning at the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit from 1997 to 1998. Rowley was a research assistant for Professor Arthur R. Miller at Harvard Law School from 1995 to 1997. He is former president of the Federal Bar Association, Los Angeles Chapter and served as co-chair of the Central District of California Lawyer Representatives to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference in 2013. Rowley is an adviser to the Restatement Fourth of the Foreign Relations Law of the United States and a member of the Center for Asian Americans United for Self Empowerment Board of Directors, Foothill Family Service Board of Directors, California Academy of Appellate Lawyers, Chancery Club of Los Angeles and the American Law Institute. Rowley earned a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Rowley is a Democrat.
