SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — The staff here at California Newswire were sad to learn early this morning of the passing of S.F. Mayor Edwin “Ed” Mah Lee, who was the 43rd mayor of San Francisco and the first Asian American to lead the city. He reportedly died of a heart attack while shopping for groceries at a Safeway store. He was 65.

The mayor’s office released a brief statement early Tuesday morning confirming Lee’s death, stating in part: “Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Anita, his two daughters, Brianna and Tania, and his family.”
