The Capitol Cup is a match between Democratic and Republican Legislators raising money for the Saint John’s Program for Real Change.

From its humble beginnings in 1985 as an emergency shelter for 20 women and children found sleeping on the steps of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Saint John’s Program for Real Change now offers the Sacramento region 32 years of service, vision and growth with 30,000+ lives transformed. Dedicated to the eradication of homelessness, this 12-18 month-long program includes mental health therapy, alcohol and drug counseling, parenting education, budgeting classes, healthy relationship training and its proprietary Employment Training Program. Accommodating over 550 clients and their children each year in three levels of increasingly independent housing, 96% of Saint John’s Employment Training Program graduates secure unsubsidized employment, a crucial step in their journeys to self-sustainability.

In May of 2017, thanks to the City of Sacramento, the Federal Home Loan Bank and members of the Sacramento community, Saint John’s is expanding its program from serving up to 180 women and children each day to up to 320 per day.
