LOS ANGELES AND TEMECULA /CALIFORNIA NEWSWIRE/ — As part of its Mental Health is Health initiative, MTV’s second-annual Mental Health Action Day – an open-source movement of brands, organizations, government agencies, and cultural leaders to drive culture of mental health from awareness to action – will bring together more than 1,600 organizations in cities across the country, including in Los Angeles and Temecula, to encourage and empower people to take action for mental health on Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Mental Health Action Day
This year’s Mental Health Action Day theme is Connection, where brands and nonprofits in cities around the world will host free in-person events – from music concerts to public art installations to comedy shows – and virtual events designed to support people of all ages with communal and engaging ways to cope with the rise of loneliness during the pandemic.

MTVE will also introduce “Mental Health Moments,” a series of spots advocating for mental wellness and encouraging listeners to take action. At the top of every hour across all MTVE linear channels on May 19, audiences will learn how deep breathing can help including:

* Improve your mood

* Reduce stress and anxiety

* Increase your level of concentration

* Boost your immune system

WHO, WHEN & WHERE:
In Los Angeles and Temecula, the following events by partners will take place:

Los Angeles

May 19th: My Friend’s Place’s Transformative Education Program will host a special community mural art project that will engage alumni, youth experiencing homelessness and members of the community to co-create artwork that will be displayed on the outside of their building. Additionally, My Friend’s Place will produce three special Mental Health Action Day “POPCORN” Zine Editions that will engage three youth artists (alumni or youth experiencing homelessness currently engaging in services at My Friend’s Place) to create editions that focus on mental health and wellness.< (Location: My Friend’s Place in Hollywood, 5850 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028) May 19th from 9am-3pm: The Confess Project will host mental health barber training from 9:30- 11am at BORNERS Barber College and then give free haircuts and distribute mental health resources to the community from 11:30 -3pm. (Location: BORNERS Barber College, 1284 N Lake Ave, Pasadena, CA 91104)

Temecula

May 19th from 11:45am-12:45pm: NAMI Temecula will host “Walk Your Way” art events with NAMI campus high school programs and peer support groups. Participants will use art therapy as a form of mental health action, painting and drawing on white canvas shoes.
