SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — on Tuesday, Calif. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments: First, Charles Alexander, 60, of Inglewood, has been appointed to the California Physician Assistant Board. Alexander has been associate vice provost for student diversity and director of the academic advancement program at the University of California, Los Angeles since 2006.
Alexander was associate dean for student affairs and admissions at the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry from 1996 to 2006 and director of multicultural concerns and assistant to the dean of the Marquette University School of Dentistry from 1990 to 1996. Alexander served as associate dean of the college of arts and sciences at Brandeis University from 1989 to 1990 and director of multicultural affairs at Milwaukee Area Technical College from 1988 to 1989. Alexander earned a Master of Arts degree in sociology from the University of Nebraska and a doctorate degree in the sociological foundations of education from Marquette University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Alexander is a Democrat.
Sonya Earley, 46, of La Mirada, has been appointed to the California Physician Assistant Board. Earley has been a certified insulin pump trainer and consultant at Animas Corporation since 2008 and physician assistant and certified diabetes educator at the Southern California Kaiser Permanente Medical Group since 2007. She has also been an instructor of clinical medicine at the University of California Keck School of Medicine since 2004. Earley worked at the Los Angeles County and University of Southern California Medical Center as a pediatric physician assistant from 1996 to 2005 and a pediatric resident from 1994 to 1995. She earned a Master of Arts degree in biology from California State University, Dominguez Hills. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Jed Grant, 42, of Tulare, has been appointed to the California Physician Assistant Board. Grant has been an emergency medicine physician assistant at CEP America since 2011, a reserve police officer for the City of Visalia since 2009 and a physician assistant program instructor at San Joaquin Valley College since 2003. He was a lead physician assistant at Sierra View District Hospital from 2007 to 2011 and a lead physician assistant for CEP America from 2000 to 2007. Grant served as a soldier in the United States Army and National Guard from 1993 to 2006. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Grant is a Republican.
Rosalee Shorter, 36, of Placerville, has been appointed to the California Physician Assistant Board. Shorter has been a physician assistant at Mercy Medical Group, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery since 2007. She was a physician assistant in urgent care at Mercy Medical Group from 2009 to 2012 and physician assistant in general surgery and trauma at George Washington University, Department of Surgery from 2004 to 2007. Shorter earned a Master of Public Health degree from George Washington University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
