SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Calif. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments: First, Jeffrey Azoff, 26, of Beverly Hills, has been appointed to the California Exposition and State Fair Board of Directors. Azoff has been senior manager and strategic operations manager at Front Line Management Group Inc. since 2008. He is a member of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame Board of Directors. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Azoff is registered decline-to-state.
Rima Barkett, 48, of Stockton, has been appointed to the California Exposition and State Fair Board of Directors. Barkett has been president and founder of A Tavola Together since 2007. She was an international relations officer at the World Summit of Noble Peace Laureates from 2006 to 2007 and owner of Café Luna Spaghetteria from 2002 to 2006. Barkett was an instructor of Italian language at the University of the Pacific from 1996 to 2002. She is founder and president of the Architects of Peace Foundation and a member of the Child Abuse Prevention Council of San Joaquin County. Barkett attended Le Cordon Bleu and Gambero Rosso culinary schools and is co-author of Cooking Dinner, Simple Italian Family Recipes Everyone Can Cook. Carmela Garnica, 56, of Blythe, has been appointed to Area Board XII of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Garnica has been the program director for Escuela De La Raza Unida since 2000, where she was executive director from 1980 to 1998. Mary Noel Pepys, 66, of San Francisco, has been appointed to the Hastings College of the Law Board of Directors. Pepys has been an international rule of law attorney since 1993. She worked as a justice advisor at the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Bureau in Afghanistan for the United States Department of State from 2008 to 2009. She was principal land use attorney at the Law Office of Mary Noel Pepys from 1986 to 1993 and an attorney at Heller Ehrman White and McAuliffe LLP from 1984 to 1986. Pepys was a legal officer for the Multinational Force and Observers from 1982 to 1984, special assistant at the U.S. Department of State from 1981 to 1982 and lawyer at the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs from 1980 to 1981. Mark Starr, 56, of Rocklin, has been appointed deputy director of the Center for Environmental Health at the Department of Public Health. Starr has been the director of community health, clinics and animal services for Placer County since 2007. He served in multiple positions at the California Department of Health Care Services from 1995 to 2007, including chief of the Division of Communicable Disease Control. Starr has been a volunteer clinical professor in the Master of Public Health Program at the University of California, Davis since 2004 and was a lecturer on Health and Safety Studies at California State University, Sacramento from 1996 to 2000. He was chief epidemiologist at the Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services from 1990 to 1995. Starr. He earned a Master of Preventive Veterinary Medicine degree and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from University of California, Davis and is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.
