LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. on Friday announced the following appointments: Colonel David Baldwin, 47, of Fair Oaks, has been appointed as the adjutant general of the California National Guard. Baldwin has served the California National Guard for more than 29 years and has served two combat tours in Afghanistan. He currently serves with the United States Army as the deputy commanding officer of the 101st Air Assault Division Tactical Command Post in Afghanistan and previously served as the executive officer to the commanding general of the Combined Forces Command in Afghanistan during a nine month tour in 2004.

Baldwin’s history with the California National Guard includes serving as the chief of the Joint Staff from 2009 to 2010, director of plans and operations from 2004 to 2009, deputy director of government and community affairs from 1996 to 2004, state budget officer from 1994 to 1996, and emergency plans and operations officer from 1986 to 1994. He also served as the commander of the 40th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from 2007 to 2009. Baldwin holds a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Science from Stanford University. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $180,201. Baldwin is a Republican.

Colonel Matthew Beevers, 47, of Felton, has been appointed assistant adjutant general of the California National Guard. Beevers has served with the California Army National Guard for nearly 28 years, including tours of duty in Bosnia and Afghanistan, and is currently assigned as the commander of the 100th Troop Command. He is the director of operations for the California National Guard and previously served as the director of homeland security training and exercise program. Beevers holds a Master of Science from the United States Army War College, a Bachelor of Science from San Jose State University, and an Associate of Arts from the New Mexico Military Institute . This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $139,194. Beevers is a Republican.
