Assemblymember Muratsuchi

SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — On Monday, Calif. Governor Jerry Brown signed into law Assembly Bill (AB) 2565, authored by Assemblymember Muratsuchi (D–Torrance), a measure that will remove impediments to the installation of electric vehicle charging stations on private property.

Under the newly-signed Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Act, if a tenant wants to install an electric vehicle charging station and is willing to pay for all costs associated with its installation and operation, a property owner is required to allow the installation. The law also provides procedural protections for both landlords and tenants.

“California is leading the nation in the fight against climate change,” said Assemblymember Muratsuchi. “A critical part of California’s efforts is to provide the infrastructure necessary to support the growing demand for electric vehicles. The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Act removes obstacles to the installation of more EV charging stations on private property.”

Assemblymember Muratsuchi represents the 66th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Gardena, Hermosa Beach, Lomita, the Los Angeles communities of Harbor City and Harbor Gateway, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance and the unincorporated communities of El Camino Village and West Carson.
