SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced “The Governor’s Conference on Local Renewable Energy Resources,” a two-day event in Los Angeles that will explore how the public and private sectors can drive local energy generation to meet his 12,000 megawatts goal for California by 2020.
The conference is hosted in partnership with Bank of America and the UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation. It will be held at UCLA July 25 – 26, 2011.
Governor Brown set a goal that by 2020 California should produce 20,000 new megawatts of renewable energy in his Clean Energy Jobs Plan. The plan calls for 12,000 megawatts to come from localized energy sources—onsite or small systems located close to where energy is consumed that can be constructed quickly, without new transmission lines, and typically without any environmental impact.
On April 12, 2011, Governor Brown signed SBX1 2, requiring that one-third of the state’s electricity come from renewable sources by December 31, 2020.
Meeting the 12,000 megawatts goal creates important advantages for California in the state’s drive for clean power, including creating clean energy jobs, driving economic development and giving consumers greater choice and autonomy.
Participation in the conference is by invitation only. Governor Brown will welcome invitees at 9:00 a.m. and participate in a panel at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2011 that will be open to the media.
