SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Today, Calif. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments: First, Jacque Roberts, 35, of West Sacramento, has been appointed senior advisor at the California Department of General Services. Roberts has served as a deputy legislative affairs secretary in the Office of Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. since 2011.
She served as assistant legislative secretary in the Office of the Governor from 2006 to 2010, where she was senior legislative analyst from 2005 to 2006. Roberts served as a policy analyst in the California Secretary of Education’s Office in 2005, floor manager for the California State Senate from 2002 to 2004 and as a capital fellow in the Office of California State Senate Republican Leader Jim Brulte from 2001 to 2002. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $107,004. Roberts is a Republican.
Victoria Hassid, 32, of San Francisco, has been appointed deputy director of legislation and policy at the California Department of Industrial Relations, where she has served as special counsel to the director since 2012. Hassid served as a deputy appointments secretary in the Office of the Governor from 2011 to 2012 and was a post-graduate research assistant at the University of California, Davis School of Law in 2010, where she was a research assistant from 2008 to 2010. She was a summer law clerk at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 2009, a legal intern at the Yolo County Counsel’s Office in 2009, a legal policy intern at the Planning Conservation League in 2008 and held several positions at Education First from 2003 to 2007, including regional sales manager. Merri Lopez-Keifer, 43, of Martinez, has been appointed to the California Native American Heritage Commission. Lopez-Keifer has been an attorney in private practice since 2010 and chief legal counsel for the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians since 1998. She served as an assistant district attorney in the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office from 1999 to 2004. Lopez-Keifer earned a Juris Doctor degree from Boston College Law School. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Lopez-Keifer is a Democrat.
Joseph Myers, 75, of Petaluma, has been appointed to the California Native American Heritage Commission. Myers has been executive director at the National Indian Justice Center since 1983. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Myers is a Democrat.
Peter Y. Chiu, 67, of Palo Alto, has been reappointed to the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, where he has served since 2013. Chiu has been a member of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District Hearing Board since 2013 and an adjunct clinical professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine since 2009. He was a senior physician at the Kaiser Permanente Milpitas Medical Offices from 1990 to 2012, a family physician at the Good Samaritan Medical Group from 1989 to 1990 and a family physician and partner at Chiu and Crawford M.D.s from 1986 to 1989. Chiu was resident physician and chief of resident physicians at the San Jose Hospital from 1983 to 1986, principal environmental engineer at the Association of Bay Area Governments from 1976 to 1979 and associate water quality management engineer at the Bay Area Sewage Services Agency from 1974 to 1976. He earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine and Doctor of Public Health in environmental health and Master of Public Health in occupational health degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. Jacqueline Horn, 66, of Sacramento, has been reappointed to the California Board of Psychology, where she has served since 2012. Horn has been a clinical psychologist in private practice since 1983. She was chief of the California Department of General Services Office of Strategic Planning, Policy and Research from 2008 to 2012. Koch is a member of the Asian Pacific State Employees Association Board. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $125,664. Koch is a Republican.
Peter Mindnich, 61, of Rolling Hills, has been appointed to the California Library Services Board. Mindnich has been president of the Braille Institute since 2014, where he was executive vice president from 2011 to 2014. He was an executive intern at the U.S. Veterans Initiative from 2010 to 2011 and a clinical social work intern at St. Mary Medical Center’s Comprehensive AIDS Resource and Education Program from 2009 to 2010. Mindnich was managing director at BlackRock Inc. from 2007 to 2009, principal at Quellos Group LLC from 2001 to 2007 and a managing director at Goldman, Sachs and Company from 1985 to 1999.
