SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — On Wednesday, Calif. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments: First, Lai Lai Bui, 40, of Shingle Springs, has been reappointed to the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, where she has served since 2005. Bui has held multiple positions at the Sacramento Police Department since 1994, including sergeant, detective and officer.
She is a member of the California Peace Officers Association, the Sacramento Asian Peace Officers Association, the Sacramento Police Officers Association and the Peace Officers Research Association. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Bui is a Republican.
Peter Kurylowicz, 56, of Hemet, has been reappointed to the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, where he has served since 2012. Kurylowicz has been a deputy sheriff at the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department since 1989. He is president of the Riverside County Deputy Sheriff Relief Foundation and executive secretary of the Riverside Sheriff’s Association. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Kurylowicz is a Republican.
Bernard Melekian, 64, of Santa Barbara, has been appointed to the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Melekian has been president of the Paratus Group since 2013. He was director of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services from 2009 to 2013 and chief of police at the City of Pasadena Police Department from 1996 to 2009. Melekian held multiple positions at the Santa Monica Police Department from 1973 to 1996, including captain, lieutenant, sergeant and officer. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves from 1984 to 2009 and retired with the rank chief petty officer. Melekian is a member of the Santa Barbara Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Board, the Police Foundation and a member of the California Police Chiefs Association. He earned a Doctor of Public Administration degree in policy, planning and development from the University of Southern California and a Master of Public Administration degree from California State University, Northridge. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Melekian is a Democrat.
Anthony Munoz, 45, of Tracy, has been appointed to the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Munoz has held multiple positions at the Alameda Police Department since 1995, including sergeant and officer. He is past president and executive board member at the California Narcotics Officers’ Association. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Munoz is a Republican.
