SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Calif. Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) released the following statement after President Donald Trump exercised executive authority to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:
“This is exactly the kind of bigoted appeal to his base we’ve come to expect from Donald Trump. The DREAMers who were brought to this country as young children, who are American to their core, deserve better. The legislature will do everything we can working with local governments, universities, and schools to keep these young people secure, safe, and here where they belong.
“Not a dime of taxpayer funding or law enforcement resources should be wasted threatening the future of promising Californians. Now that Donald Trump has again abdicated his responsibility to lead, it’s up to Congress to do the right thing on behalf of these young people.”
