SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Today, California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments: First, Gloria Bell, 58, of Salinas, has been reappointed to the California Employment Training Panel, where she has served since 2013. Bell was safety officer and employee relations manager at Driscoll Strawberry Associates Inc. from 2002 to 2013, human resource manager at Temple-Inland Paperboard and Packaging Inc. from 1999 to 2002 and human resource manager at Fresh Express from 1994 to 1999.
Bell is a member of the AgSafe Board of Directors and the Society for Human Resource Management. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Bell is a Democrat.
Devon Graves, 20, of Murrieta, has been appointed to the California Student Aid Commission. Graves has been conference services lead at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona Housing Conference Services since 2012. He is chair of the California State Student Association, Board of Directors and a member of the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors. Graves was attorney general at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona Associated Students Inc. from 2012 to 2013. He was the men’s basketball representative of the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona Bronco Athletics Association from 2011 to 2012. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Graves is a Democrat.
Timothy S. Martinez, 54, of Temple City, has been appointed to the Dental Hygiene Committee of California, where he has served since 2012. Martinez has been associate dean for community partnerships and access to care at the Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine since 2009 and president at Outer Cape Dental Center since 2003. He was a program evaluator at the Forsyth Institute from 2010 to 2011 and served as state dental Medicaid director at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services from 2006 to 2009 and as a dental consultant at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Office of Public Protection’s Board of Registration in Dentistry from 2005 to 2009. He was owner of Mid-Cape Dental Center from 2000 to 2005 and the dental director at South End Community Health Center from 2000 to 2003. Martinez was dental director at Harbor Health Services Inc. from 1999 to 2003 and at Boston Health Care for the Homeless from 1994 to 2003. He earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. David Orth, 56, of Clovis, has been reappointed to the California Water Commission, where he has served since 2013. Orth has been general manager of the Kings River Conservation District since 2002. He was vice president of resource management at California Valley Land Company Inc. from 2000 to 2002 and held multiple positions at the Westlands Water District from 1986 to 2000, including general manager and director of finance. Orth was deputy treasurer and principal accountant at the Fresno County Auditor-Controller and Treasurer’s Office from 1982 to 1986. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Orth is a Republican.
Larry Booth, 60, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the California Building Standards Commission. Booth has held multiple positions at Frank M. Booth Inc. since 1976, including president, manager, project engineer and estimator. He is a member of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. David Malcolm Carson, 44, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Building Standards Commission. Carson has been general counsel and policy director for environmental health at Community Health Councils since 2013. He held multiple positions at the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles from 2002 to 2013, including staff attorney and managing attorney. Carson was deputy city attorney at the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office from 2000 to 2002 and an associate at Orrick Herrington and Sutcliffe from 1996 to 1999. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Berkeley Boalt Hall and a Master of City and Regional Planning degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Elley Klausbruckner, 44, of San Diego, has been appointed to the California Building Standards Commission. Klausbruckner has been owner and principal at Klausbruckner and Associates Inc. since 1998. She was a fire protection engineer at Tomes Van Rickley and Associates from 1994 to 1998. Klausbruckner is a member of the National Fire Protection Association, the International Code Council and the San Diego Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers.
