SAN FERNANDO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Today, in Washington, D.C., U.S. Rep. Tony Cardenas (D-San Fernando Valley), a member of the House Committee on the Budget, commented on the Republican Budget plan for 2014, released by committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Ohio.
“The Republican budget is an insult to working Americans,” said Cardenas. “I am the proud son of two immigrants who embraced the American Dream and worked unbelievably hard to create new opportunities for me and my brothers and sisters. My parents came to a nation where the poor could work hard to join the middle class and where middle class families could start a business and strive for a better life
“Now, crippling income and wealth inequalities have made those goals virtually impossible for families today. Chairman Ryan’s budget takes the death of the American Dream and makes it the law of the land, shredding our safety net, laying a crushing burden on the backs of our poor and middle class, while defending tax breaks for corporations and the ultra-rich. It is an unacceptable vision of the future of our nation.”
