financial aid management

COMMERCE, Texas, Jan. 27, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Texas A&M University-Commerce has selected Regent Education’s financial aid management solution, Regent 8, to support the administration of financial aid for the state’s first competency-based degree offered by a public university. The program is entitled the Texas Affordable Baccalaureate. Upon completion, students earn a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) in organizational leadership. Regent 8 is the only financial aid management solution to offer complete support for all enrollment models including standard term, non-term, borrower-based and Competency Based Education (CBE).

“The ability to administer financial aid effectively for a competency-based program is critical to an institution’s success, but most financial aid software solutions are unable to support CBE,” said Mary Hendrix, Vice President of Student Access and Success. “Regent 8 will enable us to administer financial aid in an automated manner, and students will be able to progress academically without being hindered by the limitations of financial aid software.”

Texas A&M University-Commerce is the second largest school in The Texas A&M University System with more than 12,000 students and is leading the state in CBE. Their Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) in organizational leadership degree prepares leaders for employment in an increasingly technological and global society. This program provides opportunities for students to receive credit for what they know and can do, allowing them to accelerate completion of their degree. And, because it is fully online, students are able to plan their study schedules around the rest of their day to complete the coursework.

“We are very pleased to be working with one of the leading competency-based education institutions in the country,” said Randy Jones, CEO of Regent. “When we designed Regent 8, our central tenet was to design a state-of-the-art financial aid management solution that would enable institutions to automate even the most complex enrollment models. We are thrilled that Regent 8 will enable Texas A&M University-Commerce to have the academic flexibility they desire, while also enabling them to meet the changing needs of their learners.”

Regent Education continues to expand its list of leading CBE schools while resolving the issues schools face when trying to administer Title IV aid for CBE. Regent 8 is the only solution on the market today that fully supports both traditional and non-traditional enrollment models. The challenges institutions face related to the administration of Title IV financial aid when offering competency-based programs are the result of financial aid management systems that are designed around the concept of structured periods of enrollment around a traditional academic calendar. The design of Regent 8 is fundamentally different, providing institutions flexibility to offer programs with non-traditional terms, while matching the financial aid model to the academic model.
