dax certification courseCULVER CITY, Calif. /California Newswire/ — A total of 104 film and TV production personnel from key Hollywood unions and guilds, as well as current show staffers and freelancers, received official certification as qualified users of DAX, the industry's leading digital production workflow and media management application, during a free training session conducted Feb. 9, at Pickwick Gardens in Burbank.

The half-day DAX Certification Course provided information and training that allow certified users to utilize the increasingly important technology behind the highly secure DAX cloud-based asset management and collaboration system introduced five years ago under the company's former banner, Sample Digital, that has been adopted by most production studios and television networks and over 8,500 individuals in production.

Attendees included editors and assistant editors of the Motion Pictures Editors Guild, digital imaging technicians from the Local 600 cinematographers union as well as production coordinators, post production supervisors, music composers, and members of the Producers Guild (PGA). Networks and studios represented included CBS Television Studios, Warner Bros., Disney, Relativity Media, 20th Century Fox, AMC, A&E Networks, and the Los Angeles Film & TV Meetup Group, all current DAX users as well as many DAX first-timers.

"Amazing turn out – great to see such high interest in our perspective of the future in cloud based Postproduction workflow," said CEO Patrick Macdonald-King. "We believe the key to tomorrow's industry jobs is understanding the industry's new digital business model and mastering its emerging technologies, including our widely used digital workflow platform. We look forward to bringing this training to more members of Hollywood's production and post-production community as well as hosting a session in Toronto in the late spring."

Session attendees learned DAX 4.0 new features such as the Dashboard, which provides an easy way to view "new and unseen" content available to the user, the new Forum style, time code-based commenting system, updated review and approval tool, updated and more robust search and metadata tools, and the new DAX|MOBILE application which puts in place the DAX 4.0 features in the iPad application.

Instruction also included DAX basics such as the tools to manage, ingest and review digital assets and metadata from pre-production, dailies from production, cuts and sequences from editorial and post, through the distribution of video, images, and documents. Instruction also covered DAX|MOBILE with iDailies, a mobile iPad application distributed via iTunes. The mobile application brings all the production tools and features of desktop DAX to the iPad. Attendees were provided with a DAX|CERTIFIED logo for their resumes and websites.

Shows currently using the DAX platform include: "Homeland," "NCIS," "New Girl," "The Walking Dead," "CSI," "American's Next Top Model," "Bones," "The Mentalist," "Two and a Half Men," "Glee," "How I Met Your Mother," "Dexter" and "Mad Men," and all of the pilots for CBS Television Studios, 20th Century FOX, and Warner Bros. Television Studios. Recent feature film productions include "Ides of March," "Hunger Games," "Dolphin Tale," "Alice in Wonderland," "Iron Man" and "Immortals," as well as many independent feature films.

An announcement will be made when the next DAX Certification Course is scheduled and DAX also plans to host courses at participating studios. Companies and groups wishing to arrange private training sessions are invited to contact info@daxcloud.com.
