Nassau and Suffolk County educators, nominated by their students, awarded $500 sponsorships and class parties
LONG ISLAND, N.Y. /California Newswire – National News/ — Doherty Enterprises-owned Applebee’s® Neighborhood Grill + Bar restaurants in Long Island announced the winners of the 9th annual Above and ‘BEE’yond Teacher Essay Contest. This spring, four Long Island teachers-each chosen by their students-will each receive a $500 check to enhance their classrooms for the 2025-2026 school year, plus an end-of-year celebration with their classroom students at their local Applebee’s.
The 2025 Long Island Above and ‘BEE’yond Essay Contest Winners are:
* Ms. Pulewitz, Island Trees (Nassau County)
* Laurette Roddin, Westside School (Nassau County)
* Christina Delaney, South Bay Elementary School (Suffolk County)
* Maira Portal, Longwood High School (Suffolk County)
In January, the Doherty-owned Applebee’s restaurants asked students in local elementary, middle, and high schools to submit essays explaining how their teachers went above and “BEEyond.” A panel of judges selected the top four essays and awarded those special teachers with a check for $500 to better their classrooms and the opportunity to host an exclusive end-of-year class celebration at their local Doherty-owned Applebee’s restaurant.
“We’re delighted to honor these outstanding Long Island teachers who go above and ‘BEE’yond for their students,” said Brian McDonnell, Doherty’s Director of Operations for Long Island. “Their creativity and commitment make a real difference in the classroom, and we’re proud to celebrate their achievements.”
Each year, the Above and ‘BEE’yond Teacher Essay Contest encourages students to nominate an exemplary educator with an in-person essay submission at participating Applebee’s® restaurants. Winners enjoy a $500 sponsorship for their classroom and a festive end-of-year class party.
