Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments: First, Michael Brown, 60, of Santa Barbara, has been appointed to the California Ocean Protection Council. Brown has been principal and partner at Brown and Wilmanns Environmental LLC since 2006 and was principal at Michael S. Brown and Associates from 1999 to 2006.
He was director of environmental research and development at Patagonia Inc. from 1993 to 1999 and served as manager of environmental affairs for the City of Irvine from 1990 to 1992. Brown earned a Doctorate degree in city and regional planning and a Master of Regional Planning degree from Cornell University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem and covers necessary expenses. Brown is a Democrat.
Elizabeth Mooney-McGuirk, 32, of Sacramento, has been appointed deputy director of legislation at the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Mooney-McGuirk has been legislative director for Assemblymember Nancy Skinner since 2008. Lynn Schenk, 67, of San Diego, has been appointed to the California High Speed Rail Authority, where she has served since 2003. She was commissioner and vice chair of the San Diego Port District from 1990 to 1993. Schenk served as deputy secretary and later as secretary at the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency from 1977 to 1983 and was a special assistant to Vice Presidents Nelson A.
