SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Today, Calif. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments. First, Tyler Busselen, 26, of Sacramento, has been appointed to Area Board III of the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Tyler has been a member of Disabled Sports USA since 2009. He was a rider and volunteer for Project Ride from 2008 to 2011 and volunteer for Project Play from 2004 to 2011. Busselen was a rider and volunteer for Ride to Walk from 1989 to 2006. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Busselen is registered decline-to-state.
Martha Johanson, 50, of Milpitas, has been appointed to Area Board VII of the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Johanson has been founder and president of the Johanson Healing Institute since 2013. She was co-founder of Building Martin’s Miracle from 2005 to 2012 and a Spanish immersion educator at Forest Glen Elementary School from 2003 to 2004. Johanson served in multiple positions at the New York City Board of Education from 1997 to 2000, including guidance counselor and interim director of Pupil Personnel for District 6. She was an early intervention coordinator at Graham Windham from 1996 to 1997 and a teacher and coordinator at Project Reach Youth Inc. in 1996. Johanson was a consultant at the Children’s Television Network from 1995 to 1996 and at Migrant Head Start of Central Indiana in 1995. She was a Spanish immersion teacher at the Park Tudor School from 1993 to 1995. Johanson earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in clinical Christian counseling from Cornerstone University, a Master of Science degree in school counseling from Indiana University and a Master of Education degree in education administration from the Universidad Inca Garcilaso de la Vega in Lima, Peru. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Johanson is a Republican.
Thomas Smith, 41, of Santa Cruz, has been appointed to Area Board VII of the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Smith has been a volunteer at the Resource Center for Non-Violence since 2011. He was a greeter at Old Navy from 1995 to 1996 and worked in various positions at Kmart in 1994, including customer service clerk. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Smith is a Democrat.
Andrea Vergne, 53, of Arroyo Grande, has been appointed to Area Board IX of the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Vergne has been a produce manager at Cookie Crock Warehouse since 2008 and was a manager at Con-Am Management Corporation in San Diego from 1997 to 2000. She was assistant to the dean of development at Western School of Law from 1992 to 1995 and an administrative assistant in the Law Office of James E. Lund from 1987 to 1992. Vergne was a manager at Windmill Farms from 1982 to 1995. She has been a member of the Latino Outreach Council of San Luis Obispo since 2008. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Vergne is a Democrat.
Lisa M. Stanton, 61, of Costa Mesa, has been appointed to Area Board XI of the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Stanton has been a licensed marriage and family therapist since 2005. She was clinical director at Peace and Joy Care Center in 2009 and held multiple positions at Providence Community Services Inc. from 2002 to 2009. She was a marriage and family therapist intern at the Orange County Bar Foundation’s Juvenile Diversion Program from 2001 to 2002 and a therapist and group facilitator at the College Hospital Costa Mesa’s Partial Hospitalization Program from 2000 to 2001. Stanton was a counselor and parent educator at the Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter from 1999 to 2002. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Ning Yang, 25, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Yang was a student representative on the California Community College Board of Governors from 2011 to 2013. She served as a senator and general assembly planning committee chair for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges from 2010 to 2011. Ying served as a housing programs representative for the Community Development Commission of Mendocino County in 2010 and was student body president at Mendocino College from 2008 to 2009. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Yang is a Democrat.
Christopher Miller-Cole, 40, of Oakland, has been appointed to the California Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission. Miller-Cole has served in multiple positions at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation since 2006, including clinical psychologist at the Parole Outpatient Clinic. He held multiple positions at the City of Berkeley Mental Health Department from 2002 to 2006, including mental health clinician and pre- and post-doctoral intern. Miller-Cole completed clinical traineeships at New Leaf Services in San Francisco from 2000 to 2001, John George Psychiatric Pavilion in San Leandro from 1999 to 2000 and the Haight Ashbury Free Clinics Detoxification and Aftercare Program from 1998 to 1999.
