SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — On Friday, Calif. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments: First, Stephanie Shimazu, 43, of Sacramento, has been appointed chief counsel at the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Shimazu has been an attorney at the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs since 2013. She was an attorney at the California Department of Social Services in 2013 and held multiple positions at the California Gambling Control Commission from 2007 to 2012, including chairperson and commissioner.
Shimazu was deputy legal affairs secretary at the Office of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger from 2004 to 2007 and was staff counsel at the California Department of Social Services from 2001 to 2003. She was deputy legislative counsel at the State of California Office of Legislative Counsel from 1999 to 2001, staff counsel at the California Department of Corrections from 1997 to 1999 and deputy city attorney for the City of Sacramento from 1995 to 1997. Shimazu earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $125,100. Shimazu is a Democrat.
Anthony Barkett, 47, of Stockton, has been appointed to the California Citizens Compensation Commission. Barkett has been chief executive officer at Trinity Solar since 2010 and a managing member of Oliveto LLC since 2008. He has been developer, owner and manager of a variety of commercial properties throughout the Central Valley since 2002. He was a partner at Emerald Properties from 1988 to 2005 and an attorney in private practice from 1992 to 2002. Barkett earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Barkett is a Democrat.
Donna Bacarti, 47, of El Cajon, has been appointed to the California F.A.I.R. Plan Governing Committee. Bacarti has been a personal lines underwriting manager at Burns and Wilcox Insurance Services since 2005. She was a personal lines account representative at Teague Insurance Agency from 2002 to 2005 and a personal lines manager at the Robert F. Driver Company from 1987 to 2002. Bacarti is a member of the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego and the Friends of Scott Foundation. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Bacarti is a Libertarian.
Javier Rodriguez, 54, of Hacienda Heights, has been appointed to the F.A.I.R. Plan Governing Committee. Rodriguez has been president of RISCO Insurance Services Inc. since 2000. He was president of Rodriguez Insurance Services from 1984 to 1999. Rodriguez is a member of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of California and the Western Insurance Agents Association. He is the founder of the Good Samaritan Scholarship Program. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Rodriguez is a Republican.
Irene Sabourin, 56, of Fair Oaks, has been appointed to the F.A.I.R. Plan Governing Committee. Sabourin has been vice president of personal lines at the John O. Bronson Company since 1978. She was a customer service representative at Key Freeman Agency Inc. from 1972 to 1978. Sabourin has been a member of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of California since 2009 and of the Insurance Brokers and Agents of Sacramento since 2012.
