Brown Jr. announced the following appointments: Geoff Dean, 57, of Ventura, has been appointed to the California Board of State and Community Corrections. Dean has held multiple positions at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office since 1977, including sheriff, commander, sergeant and deputy.
Dean is a member of the American Cancer Society community council and the Casa Pacifica Centers for Children and Families Board of Directors. Dean earned a Master of Public Administration degree from California State University, Northridge and a Master of Business Administration degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona College of Business Administration. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Dean is a Republican.
Tian Feng, 55, of Oakland, has been appointed to the California Architects Board. Feng has been district architect for the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District since 2001. He was senior architect at LCA Architects from 2000 to 2001 and an architect at JKA Construction Consultants from 1997 to 2000 and at Jacobs Engineering-Sverdrup Corporation from 1994 to 1997. Feng was project manager at Sue Associates Architecture from 1989 to 1994, architectural designer at Fong and Chan Architects from 1988 to 1989 and teaching and research assistant at the University of Southern California School of Architecture from 1985 to 1988. Sandra Smith, 59, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities as the Area Board III representative. Smith has served on Area Board III since 2012. Smith was an executive assistant for Sacramento City councilmember Lauren Hammond in 2004 and a grant reader at the California Department of Education from 1998 to 2000. Patrick Miller, 48, of Newbury Park, has been appointed to the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities, Area Board IX.
