SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — On Wednesday, California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments: First, Tony Perez, 49, of San Diego, has been appointed undersecretary at the California Government Operations Agency. Perez has been a consultant and attorney in private practice since 2014.
Perez held multiple positions at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s Wake Forest School of Medicine from 2012 to 2013, including vice president of academic administration and operations and senior associate dean of administration and operations. Perez held multiple positions at the University of California, San Diego from 2008 to 2012, including assistant vice chancellor for health sciences affairs and chief health sciences counsel. He held multiple positions at the University of California, Davis from 2001 to 2008, including chief compliance officer, director of institutional review board administration and health system counsel.
He was an adjunct faculty member at the University of San Francisco from 2002 to 2006 and an attorney at Murphy Austin Adams Schoenfeld LLP from 1998 to 2001, at Diepenbrock Wulff Plant and Hannegan LLP in 1998 and at Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann and Girard from 1997 to 1998. Perez was manager of legislation and public information at the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing from 1995 to 1997. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $153,888. Perez is a Republican.
John Capitman, 59, of Tollhouse, has been appointed to the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District Governing Board. Capitman has served in multiple positions at Fresno State University since 2005, including Nickerson distinguished professor in health policy and executive director of the Central Valley Health Policy Institute. He held multiple positions at Brandeis University from 1987 to 2004, including professor and director of long-term care studies at the Schneider Institutes for Health Policy and at Virginia Commonwealth University from 1983 to 1987, including health policy analyst for the Virginia Center on Aging and assistant professor in the Department of Health Administration and the Department of Gerontology. He was a principal investigator at Berkeley Planning Associates and an evaluation research consultant at the California Department of Health Services, Office of Long-Term Care and Aging from 1980 to 1983. Capitman was research director at the Center for Research in Social Dynamics from 1977 to 1979. He is co-founder and Board of Directors member of VISIONS Inc. Erick Mikiten, 50, of Berkeley, has been reappointed to the California Building Standards Commission, where he has served since 2012. Mikiten has been president of Mikiten Architecture since 1991 and was a lecturer and instructor at the University of California, Berkeley College of Environmental Design from 1990 to 1991. He earned a Master of Arts degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Mikiten is a Democrat.
Cheryl Roberts, 44, of Alta Loma, has been reappointed to the California Building Standards Commission, where she has served since 2013. Roberts has served in multiple positions at the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District since 1992, including battalion chief, fire captain, fire academy coordinator and paramedic. Roberts was a fire academy ladder instructor at Mt. San Antonio College Fire Academy from 1998 to 2003 and a seasonal wildland firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service in 1990. Kent Sasaki, 49, of Walnut Creek, has been reappointed to the California Building Standards Commission, where he has served since 2012. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Structural Engineers Association of California.
