Los Angeles Mission College will open its doors on Friday, October 27 to host Secretary of State Alex Padilla, more than 200 students from all over Los Angeles, and manufacturing companies in the San Fernando Valley as part of an effort show students the wide range of career opportunities available in the manufacturing industry.

“There is an increasing demand for highly skilled professionals in the manufacturing sector who can design, program and operate technology,” said Congressman Tony Cárdenas. “The average age of a manufacturing employee is 56, and between now and 2020 there will be an unprecedented shortage of skilled workers. This series of events will hopefully inspire the next generation that will inherit these jobs.”

In celebration of Manufacturing Day 2017, annual national events are organized at the local level supported by thousands of manufacturers as they host students, teachers, parents, job seekers and other local community members at open houses, plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.
