SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Calif. Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) released the following statement regarding a cap and trade spending plan: “A responsible cap and trade spending plan will be approved by the Legislature this year.
“Keeping cap and trade funds bottled up isn’t going to reduce the harm caused by greenhouse gas emissions, so we need to get some of that money out the door to make progress.
“Next Tuesday, we’ll see the results of the latest cap and trade auction, which will help inform our decisions. Given the overall volatility of the funding stream, we do need to be realistic and prudent in how much and where we spend. As we’ve seen with the budget, we can make responsible investments that don’t overcommit or lead to cuts if funding dries up.
“As we continue our deliberations on the most responsible and effective way to allocate cap and trade funds, the Assembly will consider items that the Senate has indicated they would like to see included in the negotiations, as well as any parameters the Governor suggests.”
