SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — This week (Feb. 19), Calif. Governor Gavin Newsom announced the appointment of Tia Boatman-Patterson as Senior Advisor on Housing, Christina Snider as Tribal Advisor and Executive Secretary to the Native American Heritage Commission, and Anna Naimark as Tribal Negotiations Advisor in the Office of the Governor, along with the reappointment of Carl Guardino to the Transportation Commission.
Tia Boatman-Patterson, 52, of Sacramento, has been appointed Senior Advisor on Housing in the Office of Governor Newsom. She will continue to serve as Executive Director of the California Housing Finance Agency, where she has served since 2014. Boatman-Patterson was General Counsel at the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency from 2009 to 2014 and special assistant to California State Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez from 2004 to 2008 and to California State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass from 2008 to 2009. She was senior associate at Best Best and Krieger LLP from 2003 to 2004 and agency counsel at the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency from 1999 to 2003. Boatman-Patterson served in several positions for the California State Assembly Committee on Housing and Community Development from 1995 to 1999, including as chief consultant, and was a law clerk at Greve Clifford Wengel and Paras from 1992 to 1995. Boatman-Patterson earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Boatman-Patterson is a Democrat.
Christina Snider, 32, of Auburn, has been reappointed Tribal Advisor in the Office of the Governor and Executive Secretary to the Native American Heritage Commission. Snider is a member of the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians and has served as an Indian Child Welfare Act representative for the Tribe since 2017. She was of counsel at Ceiba Legal LLP from 2016 to 2017, staff attorney at the National Congress of American Indians from 2015 to 2016, a legal fellow at the Wishtoyo Foundation in 2014 and a law clerk in the Office of Tribal Justice at the U.S. Department of Justice in 2012. Snider is a member of the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians Housing Advisory Committee and the California Indian Law Association. She earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $167,952. Snider is a Democrat.
Anna Naimark, 33, of Washington, D.C., has been appointed Tribal Negotiations Advisor in the Office of Governor Newsom. Naimark is a visiting Lecturer at the American University of Rome. From 2014 to 2018, she was a Senior Program Examiner at the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). In 2016, she served as a Political Officer and Human Rights Expert at the U.S. Mission to the Human Rights Council at the U.S. Department of State. In 2014, she was a Research Fellow in the Office of Senior Advisors at Open Society Foundations. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $145,008. Naimark is a Democrat.
Carl Guardino, 57, of Monte Sereno, has been reappointed to the California Transportation Commission, where he has served since 2007. Guardino has been president and chief executive officer of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group since 1997. He was director of government affairs at Hewlett-Packard Company from 1995 to 1997, vice president of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group from 1991 to 1995, and district director of the Office of California State Assemblymember Rusty Areias from 1984 to 1990. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Guardino is a Democrat.
