SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Today, Calif. State Senator Alex Padilla (D-Pacoima) issued the following statement regarding today’s Senate vote to suspend Senator Ron Calderon, Senator Rod Wright and Senator Leland Yee:
“The people of California expect and deserve elected representatives they can trust and the Senate did the right thing in suspending three Senators today.
I’m especially troubled by the shocking and disturbing charges announced against Senator Yee.
While every citizen is entitled to due process in this country, the charges described suggest a complete disregard for the law, ethics, and public safety and certainly have no place in our government.
I believe it is time for these three Senators to resign immediately so that we can return to our important policy work in the Capitol and rebuilding trust in government.”
Senator Alex Padilla, 40, graduated from MIT with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He currently serves on the Board of MIT and is President of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. He is Chair of the Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee and represents the more than 1,100,000 residents of the 20th State Senate District in Los Angeles.
