Calif. Governor BrownSACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Today, Calif. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments: First, Howard R. Krauss, 63, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Medical Board. Krauss has been director of neurosurgical ophthalmology at Saint John’s Brain Tumor Center since 2007, director of ophthalmology for Pacific Eye and Ear since 2002 and an ophthalmologist in private practice and clinical professor of ophthalmology and neurosurgery at the University of California, Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine since 1984.

He was an assistant professor at the University of Texas from 1982 to 1984 and a systems engineer at Hughes Aircraft Company from 1972 to 1974. Krauss is an American Board of Ophthalmology diplomate and founding member of the North American Skull Base Society. He earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from New York Medical College and a Master of Science degree in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Krauss is registered decline-to-state.

Ronald Lewis, 60, of Rancho Mirage, has been appointed to the California Medical Board. Lewis has been a physician and surgeon at Ironwood State Prison since 2008 and an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, San Diego Department of Medicine since 2000. He was an urgent care physician at Eisenhower Immediate Care from 2003 to 2008, Kaiser Permanente Urgent Adult Care Center, San Diego from 2003 to 2004 and at Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Centers from 2001 to 2004. Lewis was director of medical affairs at Agouron Pharmaceuticals Inc. from 1997 to 2001 and at Sequus Pharmaceuticals Inc. from 1995 to 1997. He was a clinical assistant professor at Stanford University School of Medicine from 1993 to 1999 and held multiple positions at Syntex Laboratories Inc. from 1987 to 1995, including associate director of medical services, senior associate director of medical services and senior associate director, clinical investigation. Lewis was an emergency department physician at St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center from 1985 to 1995. He is an American College of Physicians fellow. Lewis earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Lewis is registered decline-to-state.

Jaime Wright, 30, of Culver City, has been appointed to the California Medical Board. Wright has been an attorney in private practice since 2009. She was a contract specialist at the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security in 2010 and a legislative project consultant for the California State Assembly Speaker’s Office of Members Services from 2009 to 2010. Wright was an associate at Sedgwick Detert Moran and Arnold LLP from 2008 to 2009 and a legal extern for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority from 2007 to 2008. She earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Wright is a Democrat.

Richard Guerrero, 64, of Pasadena, has been appointed to the California Board of Parole Hearings. Guerrero has been a special agent at the California Department of Justice since 2006. He was senior special investigator at the California Horse Racing Board from 2001 to 2006 and held multiple positions at the Los Angeles Police Department from 1974 to 2000, including sergeant and officer. Guerrero earned a Master of Leadership degree from the University of Southern California, School of Policy, Planning and Development. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $111,845. Guerrero is a Republican.

Elizabeth Richardson, 55, of Huntington Beach, has been appointed to the California Board of Parole Hearings, where she has served as deputy commissioner since 2013. Richardson was special assistant inspector general at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Office of the Inspector General from 2007 to 2012 and deputy commissioner at the California Board of Prison Terms from 1997 to 2007. Richardson was deputy city attorney for the City of Long Beach from 1995 to 1997 and an associate at Grancell Lebovitz Stander Marks and Barnes from 1991 to 1995. She was an administrative hearing officer at the Los Angeles International Airport in 1990 and a teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District from 1985 to 1989. She served as captain in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1980 to 1984 and in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1984 to 2010, retiring as a colonel. Richardson earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Southwestern Law School. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $111,845. Richardson is registered decline-to-state.

Beverly Hayden-Pugh, 58, of Fresno, has been appointed to the California Board of Registered Nursing. Hayden-Pugh has been vice president and chief nursing officer at Children’s Hospital Central California since 2003, where she was executive director from 2000 to 2003. She held multiple positions at the Valley Children’s Hospital from 1983 to 2000, including executive director of the Medical Service Line from 1998 to 2000, administrative director for Specialty Clinics from 1994 to 1998, administrative director of Gastroenterology from 1992 to 1994, assistant director of the pediatric oncology and surgical unit from 1988 to 1992 and registered nurse from 1983 to 1988. Hayden-Pugh earned a Master of Arts degree in organizational behavior from the California School of Professional Psychology. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Hayden-Pugh is a Democrat.

Mark Nunez, 47, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Veterinary Medical Board. Nunez has been associate veterinarian at the Veterinary Care Center since 2012. He was practice owner and veterinarian at Animal Medical Center Inc., Van Nuys from 2006 to 2012 and held multiple positions at the Veterinary Centers of America (VCA), including medical director and veterinarian at VCA Animal Hospital, Burbank from 2002 to 2005 and VCA regional medical director from 1999 to 2001. Nunez was associate veterinarian at the Animal Medical Center Inc.,Van Nuys from 1994 to 1999 and at Dill Veterinary Hospital from 1993 to 1994. He earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California, Davis. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
