SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Today, Calif. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments: First, Howard R. Krauss, 63, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Medical Board. Krauss has been director of neurosurgical ophthalmology at Saint John’s Brain Tumor Center since 2007, director of ophthalmology for Pacific Eye and Ear since 2002 and an ophthalmologist in private practice and clinical professor of ophthalmology and neurosurgery at the University of California, Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine since 1984.
He was an assistant professor at the University of Texas from 1982 to 1984 and a systems engineer at Hughes Aircraft Company from 1972 to 1974. Krauss is an American Board of Ophthalmology diplomate and founding member of the North American Skull Base Society. He earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from New York Medical College and a Master of Science degree in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Krauss is registered decline-to-state.
Ronald Lewis, 60, of Rancho Mirage, has been appointed to the California Medical Board. Lewis has been a physician and surgeon at Ironwood State Prison since 2008 and an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, San Diego Department of Medicine since 2000. He was an urgent care physician at Eisenhower Immediate Care from 2003 to 2008, Kaiser Permanente Urgent Adult Care Center, San Diego from 2003 to 2004 and at Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Centers from 2001 to 2004. Lewis was an emergency department physician at St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center from 1985 to 1995. He is an American College of Physicians fellow. Lewis earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Jaime Wright, 30, of Culver City, has been appointed to the California Medical Board. Wright has been an attorney in private practice since 2009. Richard Guerrero, 64, of Pasadena, has been appointed to the California Board of Parole Hearings. Guerrero has been a special agent at the California Department of Justice since 2006. He was senior special investigator at the California Horse Racing Board from 2001 to 2006 and held multiple positions at the Los Angeles Police Department from 1974 to 2000, including sergeant and officer. Guerrero earned a Master of Leadership degree from the University of Southern California, School of Policy, Planning and Development. Elizabeth Richardson, 55, of Huntington Beach, has been appointed to the California Board of Parole Hearings, where she has served as deputy commissioner since 2013. Beverly Hayden-Pugh, 58, of Fresno, has been appointed to the California Board of Registered Nursing.
