SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger yesterday (Sept. 16) issued the following statement following his trip to Asia, where each of the three countries he visited expressed strong interest in helping to fund the development of California’s high-speed rail system. Each nation – China, Japan and South Korea – discussed financing with Governor Schwarzenegger and California High-Speed Rail Authority staff:

“I have just returned from a successful trip to Asia, and I am especially pleased that all the countries I visited – China, Japan, and South Korea – expressed their strong interest in not just supplying trains and technology to California, but also in helping fund the development of our high-speed rail project.”

“California will benefit tremendously by being able to build state-of-the-art rail service at the lowest possible cost to taxpayers and by learning about the different technologies other nations are now using. To stay competitive, America must be able to move goods and people as quickly and efficiently as other countries do, but we must engage in public-private partnerships to do it, and that’s why these offers are so important.”
