SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Today, Calif. Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D – Torrance), Chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee, today released the following statement in response to the State Auditor’s findings related to the Employment Development Department’s (EDD) efforts to assist veterans in finding employment:

Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi“While the EDD has provided many great employment assistance-related resources to our veterans, I am disheartened by the auditor’s unfavorable results of the execution of those programs and services,” said Assemblymember Muratsuchi. “However, this result was not unforeseen and that is why Assembly Bill 1268 by Speaker John Pérez (D-Los Angeles) was introduced in the Legislature to better coordinate and administer the state veteran workforce development and employment services. I am also concerned about the reliability of some of the department’s performance data. It is essential to have accurate data to evaluate program performance.

As Principle Co-Author, I will work with the Speaker and my colleagues to ensure a successful passage of this bill because our veterans need an agency they can rely on for employment assistance.”

Assemblymember Muratsuchi represents the 66th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Gardena, Hermosa Beach, Lomita, the Los Angeles communities of Harbor City and Harbor Gateway, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance and the unincorporated communities of El Camino Village and West Carson.
