California Gov. Brown 2012SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments: First, Elliot Block, 51, of Sacramento, has been appointed deputy director, legal counsel at the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, where he has served since 2006. Block served as staff counsel at the California Integrated Waste Management Board from 1992 to 2005 and as staff counsel at the Fair Political Practices Commission from 1989 to 1992.

Black was managing attorney at the Fair Housing Council of Orange County from 1984 to 1988. Block earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $123,564. Block is a Democrat.

Carol Roland-Nawi, 67, of Sacramento, has been appointed state historic preservation officer at the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Roland-Nawi has been senior historian and project manager at Mead & Hunt Inc. since 2009 and was the principal at Roland-Nawi Associates from 2003 to 2009. She served as senior environmental planner at the California Department of Transportation from 2001 to 2003 and associate historian at the State Office of Historic Preservation at the California Department of Parks and Recreation from 1983 to 2001. Roland-Nawi has been a member of the California Office of Historical Preservation since 1991 and served as president from 2005 to 2007. She has been a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation since 1995 and a board member of Sacramento Heritage Inc. from 1995 to 1999. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $105,000. Roland-Nawi is a Democrat.

Rosalinda Rosalez, 33, of Sacramento, has been appointed chief of legislative affairs, juvenile operations at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Rosalez has served as an ombudsman in the Office of the Ombudsman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation since 2007. She served as a consultant for Senator Gloria Romero from 2004 to 2007, legal investigator for the California Appellate Project from 2002 to 2004 and was a Senate Fellow for Senator Gloria Romero from 2001 to 2002. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $94,536. Rosalez is a Democrat.
