SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Pfc. Cesar Cortez, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol today. Pfc. Cortez’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Pfc. Cesar Cortez, 24, of Oceanside, CA, died February 11, in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He was assigned to 5th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, Fort Bliss, TX. Cortez was supporting United States Mission Iraq.
