SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — On Monday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger issued the following statement after California small businesses topped the list of awardees for grants partially funded by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) money by the Department of Energy for Small Business Technology Commercialization:

“California small businesses are the backbone of our economy and they continue to be leaders of innovation and ingenuity in our clean technology industry. I applaud the recipients of today’s grants as they develop technologies that will serve to benefit our environment and our economy.”

Funded through the Department of Energy’s Small Business Innovation Research program (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer program (STTR), today’s selections are for Phase II work, which means that the 201 awards will support the development of prototype or pilot operations for innovative technologies that have successfully passed the proof of concept stage.

Governor Schwarzenegger created the California Recovery Task Force to track the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding coming into the state; work with President Barack Obama’s administration; help cities, counties, non-profits, and others access the available funding; ensure that the funding funneled through the state is spent efficiently and effectively; and maintain a Web site (www.recovery.ca.gov) that is frequently and thoroughly updated for Californians to be able to track the stimulus dollars.
