Calif. Governor Brown Announces Appointments for Dec. 4, 2012

Calif. Governor BrownSACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — On Tuesday, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments: first, Carol Monahan Cummings, 54, of Sacramento, has been appointed chief counsel at the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, where she has served since 2003. Cummings served as assistant general counsel at the California Environmental Protection Agency from 2001 to 2003, deputy district attorney at the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office from 1997 to 2001 and was an attorney in private practice from 1995 to 1997. Cummings earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Empire College School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $130,116. Cummings is a Democrat.

Hal Geiogue, 71, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the California ScholarShare Investment Board. Geiogue was chief consultant to the California State Assembly Committee on Education from 1995 to 2002 and was assistant state treasurer at the California State Treasurer’s Office from 1991 to 1995. He served in the California Legislative Analyst’s Office as principal program analyst from 1975 to 1990 and as higher education consultant from 1967 to 1975. Geiogue was a budget analyst for the California Department of Finance from 1965 to 1967. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree from California State University, Sacramento. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Geiogue is a Democrat.

Lauri Shanahan, 50, of Woodside, has been appointed to the California State Personnel Board. Shanahan has served as principal of Maroon Peak Advisors since 2009. She held multiple positions at Gap Inc. from 1992 to 2008, including chief administrative officer and chief legal officer. Shanahan was an associate at Thelen Marrin Johnson and Bridges from 1987 to 1992. She serves on the board of directors for Deckers Outdoor Corporation, Cedar Fair Entertainment Company and Charlotte Russe Holdings. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $40,669. Shanahan is a Democrat.

Christopher Stevens, 49, of Sacramento, has been appointed chief counsel at the Delta Stewardship Council, where he has served since 2010. He was chief counsel at the California Bay-Delta Authority from 2003 to 2010, general counsel at the California Department of Food and Agriculture from 2000 to 2003 and deputy legislative counsel at the Office of Legislative Counsel from 1997 to 2000. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $129,504. Stevens is a Democrat.
