Calif. Governor and First Lady Honor Pfc. Rueben J. Lopez

SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Pfc. Rueben J. Lopez, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011.

Pfc. Lopez’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Pfc. Rueben J. Lopez, 27, of Williams, CA, died August 11 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY.

Lopez was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
