STAMFORD, Conn. — Direct from Russia, the ST. PETERSBURG STATE BALLET ON ICE, with its award-winning cast of 35 ice skaters, presents a magical family show, “Sleeping Beauty on Ice.” Two special performances at the Palace Theatre in Stamford, CT (Stamford Center for the Arts, 61 Atlantic Street, Stamford CT 06901) take place on Sunday, December 7th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Staged in the best traditions of the renowned Kirov Ballet, this show is not “en pointe,” it is “on blade”. On Ice! Jumps and spins heighten the romance of this classic fairy tale, as the ice stars glide through the ballet-inspired choreography, defying gravity with every twist and turn. This production is opulently costumed and performed to the exquisite ballet score by Tchaikovsky.

THE ST. PETERSBURG STATE BALLET ON ICE is one of the jewels of Russia. Founded 40 years ago and steeped heavily in the traditions of Russian classic ballet, THE ST. PETERSBURG STATE BALLET ON ICE is the pioneer producer of ice ballets. A champion pair figure skater, general director Mikhail Kaminov began as a leading soloist with the company in 1967. He has been head of the company for over 10 years, taking it on tours across Russia, Europe, Greece, Korea, China, Canada and the United States.

Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer of the company, Merited Artist of Russia Konstantin A. Rassadin is a former star of the Mariinsky Theatre of Opera and Ballet of St. Petersburg (formally the Kirov Ballet) where for 23 years he performed leading roles and partnered with such great ballerinas as Alla Osipenko and Natalia Makarova. Since 1980, he has staged classics and created original ice ballets for the St. Petersburg State Ballet on Ice.
